Baseball Wins Three of Four Against Southern Union

The MMI baseball team won three of four games against the Bisons from Southern Union State Community College to even their ACCC North record to 4-4.

In game one, the Tigers plated two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to take a 5-4 victory. Daniel Faulk started on the mound, but early struggles allowed the Bison to take a 4-0 lead.  Dax Winningham pitched in relief, surrendering five hits and no runs while striking out three batters.  Alex Reyna led the offense finishing three-for-four from the plate with a double and two RBIs.  Yancey Foster and Matthew Duncan each went two-for-four for the Tigers.  Foster scored once while Duncan crossed the plate twice.  Samuel Farley had a double while Jonah Todd went one-for-one with an RBI. Christopher Brannon also had a hit and an RBI.

The Tigers and Bison started Saturday play finishing game two of the four game series after it was suspended due to rain Thursday afternoon.  Marion took a commanding 11-2 lead into the seventh inning before Southern Union plated seven runs to make it a close 11-9 victory.

Game three was tied 0-0 into the ninth inning before Marion put across three runs at their at-bat to take the lead, and eventual win.  Alex Reyna finished two-for-five from the plate with one run and one RBI.  Carson McGregory went two-for-four while teammates Jonah Todd and Zachary Neumann each had a hit.  Jackson Cofer went one-for-one with a two-run home run.  Yancey Foster also finished one-for-one from the plate with a run scored.  Daniel Faulk got the start on the mound, going six innings.  He surrendered one hit, four walks while striking out four Bison hitters.  Terrance Robinson threw three perfect innings in relief to secure the win and the series.

Game four had the Bisons take a 2-0 lead into the seventh inning.  Marion could only score once in the inning, giving the Bisons their first conference victory.  Joe Hudson went the distance on the mound for Marion.  He allowed six hits, two runs (one earned), two walks while striking out four hitters.  Alex Reyna and Zachary Neumann had two hits apiece.  Neumann scored Marion's only run.  Jonah Todd, Samuel Farley, and Jackson Cofer also had a hit each in the loss.  Farley recorded an RBI.
