Four Tiger Players Land in Semifinals at UWA

Livingston, AL—Three MMI men and one woman reached the semifinal round of play at the University of West Alabama's USTA/ITA One-Set Singles Campus Challenge Tournament, held on Friday, September 6 for the men and Saturday, September 7 for the women at the Howard R. Vaughan Tennis Complex.  Participating men's and women's teams included Central Alabama Community College, East Central Community College, Itawamba Community College, Marion Military Institute, Meridian Community College (MCC), and the University of West Alabama (UWA).

On the men's side, Joseph Tanjuatco, Andrew Branicki, and Sean Dreher made it to the semifinals.  Tanjuatco blanked both of his opponents, 6-0 and 6-0, before losing to UWA, 6-2.  Branicki downed his two opponents, 6-3 and 6-3, while Dreher allowed one game in each of his two matches.  In the semifinal match, Branicki bested Dreher, 6-3.  Branicki then fell in the final round to UWA, 6-4.  In other men's action, Dominique Ingram finished 3-1 for the day, and Austin Taylor, Isaac Magee, and Preston Smith each ended play with a 2-1 record. 

On the women's side, MMI's Kitty Greenwalt won her two matches, 6-0 and 6-3, before losing in the semifinal round to UWA, 6-2.  Anna Waller roared back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat MCC, 6-3, before losing a pair of matches to players from UWA.  Kathryn Risner finished the afternoon with a 2-1 record, losing to UWA, 6-5 (5) in the first round and then winning her two consolation matches, 6-0 and 6-2.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers return to the tournament trail on Friday, September 13 and Saturday, September 14, when they travel to Lagoon Park to participate in a tournament hosted by Huntingdon College.  Play on Friday is expected to begin at 1:00 p.m., and Saturday's play is slated to start at 8:00 a.m.
