Timothy Rodgers Named Head Men's Basketball Coach

When MMI's head basketball coach, Philip Stitt, announced that he was leaving for the same position at Langston University, it didn't take long for Marion's Director of Athletics, Michelle Ivey, to find his replacement.  Timothy Rodgers, who served as an assistant coach the last two years under Stitt has been named the Head Coach for Men's Basketball. "I believe that Coach Rodgers is the right person to follow Coach Stitt after working with him the last two years.  He understands what it takes to be successful here and is eager to put his name on the program.  I look forward to working with him for many years to come," stated Ivey about the new hire.    Coach Rodgers has helped the MMI Tigers to a 35-18 two-year record with back-to-back postseason appearances.

Timothy graduated from Lowndes High School in Valdosta, Georgia and played his first two seasons at Jeff Davis Community College (Brewton, AL).  After a stellar JUCO career at JDCC, he earned a basketball scholarship to play at Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City, NC.  While at ECSU, Timothy earned all CIAA Academic Honors and lettered two years.  He transferred to UNC-Pembroke where he finished his Bachelors' Degree in Physical Education.

Timothy began his coaching career while enrolled at UNCP, coaching basketball at Red Springs High School.  He helped build a program that won over 100 games in four (4) years.  Red Springs advanced to two sectional finals and one regional final with Timothy at the helm.  After finishing his degree at UNCP he began teaching at the high school.  During his three years he coached football, track and field, softball, and basketball.  Prior to his time at MMI, Timothy served as an assistant coach at St. Andrews University.
