Men’s and Women’s Tennis Teams Split Matches with Meridian

Marion, AL—The men's and women's tennis teams faced off against Meridian Community College at the Paul B. Anderson Tennis Complex on Tuesday afternoon, with the Lady Tigers blanking the Lady Eagles, 9-0, and the Eagles poleaxing the Tigers, 8-1.

The Tigers didn't put up much of a fight in their 8-1 loss to the Eagles.  The Eagles swooped in and took care of business.

"If it wasn't for my players' complaints, I wouldn't have known my team was on the courts playing tennis," coach Charles Wright said.  "That was a lackluster performance—a total team effort.  The one bright spot for the men was Andrew Carey's singles play.  Andrew played at a consistently high level throughout his match, which he won by the score of 8-2."

Fortunately, Wright could escape the men's uninspired play and turn his attention to his women's team.  The women continued their torrid play, winning their twelfth consecutive match.

The women swept singles and doubles play for a 9-0 win.

Avenging an early-season doubles loss to the Lady Eagles' Gray and Holway, the Tigers' Makenzie Ralston and Jordan Berrios stormed through the tiebreaker, 7-2, to take the match, 9-8 (2).

The Lady Tigers face Snead State Community College on Thursday, April 13.  Match play is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Snead State courts.  The Tigers and Lady Tigers then play Wallace State Community College-Hanceville on Saturday, April 15.  That match has a 1:00 p.m. start time and will be played at the Wallace State courts.
