Women’s Tennis Stretches Winning Streak to Seven; Men’s Tennis Loses Two in a Row

Livingston, AL—The Lady Tigers of Marion Military Institute continued their winning ways on Saturday morning by defeating the Lady Buccaneers of Christian Brothers University, 7-2.  That victory stretched their winning streak to seven.  The men's team, however, suffered a different fate:  their second loss in a row.  The Tigers fell to the Buccaneers, 7-2.

The women's team started off a bit shakily in doubles action, splitting the two matches played.  Paola Bou and Morgan Ingram, the Tigers' No. 1 doubles team, pulled out an 8-6 win, while the Tigers' No. 2 doubles team of Makenzie Ralston and Rebecca Lin fell 8-5.  The Tigers won No. 3 doubles by default.

In singles play, Paola Bou won at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-3, Makenzie Ralston won at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1, and Rebecca Lin won at No. 5 doubles, 6-0, 6-2.  With the match already in hand, the remaining Tiger players—Alana Larcombe at No. 2 singles and Bridget Mayfield at No. 3 singles—played an eight-game pro set instead of a best of three set match.  Larcombe lost 8-3, and Mayfield delivered the last point of the match for the Tigers, 8-1.

Isaiah Polk again stood tall for the MMI men's team.  He played some awesome tennis to take the first set from the Buccaneers' Javier Saez, 6-1, and then fought back from a 1-4 deficit to take the second set to a tiebreaker, which he won 7 points to 3.

Polk also teamed with Barry Booth to squeak out an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles over Saez and Daniel D'Alto.

The Tigers have a bit of a respite before they return to action against Gadsden State Community College at the Paul B. Anderson Tennis Complex on Saturday, April 1.  The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.  The Lady Tigers, meanwhile, will square off against Central Alabama Community College in Alexander City at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 25.
