Marion Military Institute Expands Athletic Department Staff, Hires Cross Country and Golf Coaches

Marion, AL—The Marion Military Institute (MMI) athletic department recently announced two new additions to its staff in cross country and golf.  Christopher Lawrence, who has trained elite athletes like 2012 Olympic sprinter and gold medalist Kirani James and University of Alabama football star Javier Arenas, has been hired to coach MMI's fledgling cross country teams, and Drew MacBean brings Division I (Alcorn State University) coaching experience to his new role as the head coach of MMI's newly-created golf programs.

Lawrence's coaching experience in cross country spans the spectrum from volunteer coaching gigs to Director of Track for Birmingham City Schools, from high school coaching to college and elite-level coaching, and from coaching athletes to providing coaching instruction to middle and high school coaches.
Lawrence earned his B.S. in Kinesiology and his M.A. in Sports Management, both from the University of Alabama.
MacBean's coaching resume includes two conference championships:  a 2013 Carolinas Conference Championship as Erskine College's assistant men's golf coach and a 2014 Peach Belt Conference Championship as the assistant women's golf coach at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

MacBean received a B.S. in Business Administration and PGA Golf Management from Campbell University and an M.A.E. in Coaching and Leadership from Greenville College.

Marion Military Institute, which competes in the Alabama Community College Conference, will now field teams in nine sports:  softball, baseball, men's basketball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's golf, and men's and women's cross country.
